THE STORY BEHIND THE COCKTAIL NAME

My heritage! August 11th marks my two biggest life monuments: the day I was born, and the day I left my home country to Australia. Happy coincidence, I suppose, but more importantly a reminder to myself about the identity of being Vietnamese. And a huge part of being Viet is about the food I grew up eating. I created this drink going back to the memory of my mom by our old kitchen, and for as long as I can remember, there's always that unforgettable flavour of Thai basil/citrus mix. I'd carry that memory to every single corner of the world, so I'll say it is as much of my identity as my own name. So, let's raise a toast to 11/08/1998, and a toast to 11/08/2015, because those two dates call for celebration, just like how I'm celebrating my heritage with food, with booze, and with good memories.
