THE STORY BEHIND THE COCKTAIL NAME

My entry for The Perfect Blend this year is a toast to Footscray and the local community it holds. Footscray is one of the most vibrant places I have had the pleasure of being a part of. A literal melting pot of colour and culture. A place where you’re greeted just walking down the street, where your nose, eyes and ears are constantly invited in by the riot of smells, colours and sounds that emerge from nearly every shopfront. So, when I set out to create a drink that I felt embodied the feeling of walking down Barkly Street on my way to work, my mind immediately went to the local Vietnamese community and the staple breakfast snack, the humble Bánh mì. An efficient and cost effective snack, full of flavour and soul that has not just stood the test of time but has evolved and become readily welcomed and celebrated wherever it may be found. Much like the community of wonderful people that call this place home.
