THE STORY BEHIND THE COCKTAIL NAME

The idea of the cocktail was generated from my research relating to the theme of this Perfect Blend, celebrations. I decided to look into Scottish traditions that involve this theme and I discovered the Celtic new year titled Mahogany, the celebration of the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, or the darker days as called by some. I wanted to create a cocktail that revolved around this theme of having a winter feast from all the food collected throughout the harvest season. The cocktail is designed to refresh your palate as you ate heavy foods usually associated with the theme of a winter feast. By understanding how each flavour blended and complimented each other as the forms they are used within the drink, the refreshing and smokey stirred down scotch whiskey cocktail "preceding the darker days" was born.
